Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald returning for 14th National Football League season

Fitzgerald is entering the final year of his contract, but the 33-year-old looks just as effective as ever.Fitzgerald confirmed Trotter’s report in a story on the Cardinals’ website. But on Wednesday night, ESPN’s Jim Trotter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Fitzgerald told them he will play next season. It also, likely but unconfirmed, that this means Carson Palmer will be returning to the Arizona Cardinals in 2017, as it is unlikely Fitzgerald would want to come back to break in another new quarterback with the Arizona Cardinals.Fitzgerald ranks third in National Football League history with 1,125 receptions for 14,389 yards, good for ninth all time.Fitzgerald, however, said he didn’t feel right lobbying for Palmer’s return. He has posted consecutive 1,000-yard seasons for the Cardinals and has scored 15 touchdowns in the last two years.Having Palmer and Fitzgerald back this season should put the Cardinals in position to make a push in the playoffs – a push expected to come in 2016 but didn’t after a 7-8-1 season.Cardinals coach Bruce Arians was optimistic Tuesday about a Palmer-Fitzgerald reunion next season.
